Barbe Elected Entrepreneurship Division President for the American Society for Engineering Education
COLLEGE
PARK, MD -- Dr. David Barbe was elected president of the Entrepreneurship Division of the American Society for Engineering Education for 2005.
ASEE is a nonprofit member association, comprised of more 12,000 deans, professors, instructors, students and industry representatives, dedicated to promoting and improving engineering and technology education.
Barbe will serve as president from June 2005 through June 2006, then as past-president for another year. He served as president elect last year. The ASEE’s Entrepreneurship Division has grown by 200 percent since June 2001, to 633 members. It is the fastest growing division of the organization.
“Technology entrepreneurship is rapidly growing in engineering schools both across the nation and internationally,” said Barbe. “The ideas, concepts, and research springing from engineering faculty students are major sources for new companies. Those same faculty members and students are flocking to technology entrepreneurship courses and activities to help them learn about the concepts and processes associated with technology-based start-ups.”
Barbe has been an active member of the ASEE’s Entrepreneurship Division since 2001, authoring seven papers. He received the ASEE Entrepreneurship Division Outstanding Educator Award in 2003.
