November 5, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.: TEDxMidAtlantic
Theme: The Power of Stories. Humans interpret the world through stories. Designers invent stories to help understand how people will use the things they create. Stories are at the heart of entertainment. Journalists compose stories that help us understand our world. And stories are often the key element of ideas that spread: we tell each other “great stories” about people, events, places and ideas. TEDxMidAtlantic #1 will explore how stories shape and infuse our lives with meaning, and how a good story can very often be the differentiator between an idea that spreads and those that do not. Our speakers have been asked to reflect on this theme and consider the stories inherent in their work. Speakers at TEDx MidAtlantic will feature many of the leading thinkers and doers in the MidAtlantic Region.
Location: Falvey Hall, MD Institue College of Art, 1301 Mount Royal Avenue Baltimore Maryland 21217

November 6, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.: 10th Annual CIO Forum: Web 2.0 and Beyond: Where Will the Internet Take us Next?
Featuring keynote speaker Federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra; also featuring keynote speaker Paul de Sa, Chief Strategist, Federal Communications Commission.

How do technology and strategy executives navigate this new landscape? What does Web 2.0 mean for consumers and society? Join technology leaders from government, the healthcare industry and other sectors of the economy to discuss Web 2.0, its evolution, global impact and future. The new generation of Web 2.0 technologies, including social networking and online communities, is now squarely entrenched in the mainstream. These technologies are rapidly transforming the face of business and commerce, how government and public institutions engage with the citizenry, and how healthcare is managed, accessed, and delivered. From peer-to-peer lending, to online product reviews, to political campaigns orchestrated online, to virtual patient communities that allow consumers to manage their own health and well-being, examples of this transformation can be seen in every sector of the economy. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 allocated significant investments for a techno-centric economy of the future, though, despite their promise, they are not without risk. Businesses and policy-makers need to manage these technologies wisely to leverage their value and avoid pitfalls.
