Beijing Grandsoft Company
Grandsoft was founded in 1994 in Beijing. It has over 1,000 employees and $35 Million revenue in 2007, providing information technology solutions for the construction industry. Its principal products consist of complete packages for bidding management, construction cost management, and purchasing and supply chain management. These are unique products in that they are complete off-the-shelf solutions instead of fragmented, in-house-designed proprietary software. Grandsoft has over 52% of the fast-growing Chinese market share. Their customer list includes giants like China Construction Company, Sino Petroleum Company and China Ocean Oil Company. Their initial efforts will be R&D in the areas of Construction IT and the Building Information Model (BIM).
Beijing Oil Tec Petroleum Technology LLC
Oil Tec Petroleum Technology LLC (Oil Tec) was founded in 1994. It is one of the first formal stock companies introduced after the publication of the then new Chinese Corporate Laws. Oil Tec’s primary business is the processing of oil-contaminated water from petroleum and petro-chemical companies. Oil Tec has successfully passed the ISO9001:2000 quality control system inspection standard in 2002. It has been cited by the Beijing Zhung-Gung-Chun as among a select group of new and noteworthy high-tech enterprises. It has also been recognized as a High Priority Environmental Enterprise fully supported by the City of Beijing. Oil Tec is managed by a Corporate Management team appointed by a formal Board of Directors. It currently has a total of 30 senior management and technical engineers. The company is headquartered in the Beijing Zhung-Gung-Chun High-tech Development Park. Since its inception, Oil Tec’s top business strategy has been directed to the development of new technology and the infusion and cultivation of quality staff members. As a result of its successful business development, Oil Tec has been able to create its own brand name, has made contributions to improved technology and built a solid relationship with its customer base. Beijing Sino-American Venture Capital LLC
Sino-American Venture Capital, LLC (SAVC) is a joint venture between the Chinese company CAMARO, and the American company Sino-American Integrated Services, LLC (SAIS). SAVC principals have extensive experience in high-tech businesses such as environmental protection, meteorological and weather modeling, and scientific system research and development programs. SAVC staff also possess extensive experience in financial management and consultation. Its principal partner has successfully brought a Chinese-American company public through the IPO process. It also has experience in the merger and acquisition of U.S. companies. SAVC shall provide management and financial consultation services to those Chinese and American companies associated with the University of Maryland-China Research Park, including identifying Chinese companies to participate in the Park and to find initial funding for those companies.
Shandong Province Liaison Office
The Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province has established a liaison office at the UM-China Research Park. Shandong is one of
the richer provinces of China. Its economic development focuses on large enterprises with well-known brand names. Shandong is the biggest industrial producer and one of the top manufacturing provinces in China. Shandong has also benefited from South Korean and Japanese investment, due to its geographical proximity to those countries. The richest part of the province is the Shandong Peninsula, where the city of Qingdao is home to two of the most well-known brand names of China: Tsingtao Beer and Haier. In addition, Dongying’s oil fields and petroleum industries form an important component of Shandong’s economy. In 2008, the nominal GDP for Shandong was 3.11 trillion Yuan (US $446 billion), ranking second in the country (behind Guangdong and ahead of Jiangsu). It’s GDP per capita was 33,083 Yuan (US $4,749), ranking seventh. The primary mission of the Liaison Office in the UM-China Research Park is to assist Shandong businesses in entering into collaborations with U.S. businesses. It will identify businesses in Shandong as candidates to establish operations in the U.S. The Province has selected Mr. Liu Chibing, through a competition of over 20 applicants, to establish the office at College Park on October 1, 2009.
UK CommunityDNS
CommunityDNS Limited is a community-based initiative designed to promote best practice in handling Internet infrastructure Domain Name resolution Services (DNS), the underlying infrastructure that makes the Internet work. Increasingly, CommunityDNS is becoming a global Centre of Excellence and participation in CommunityDNS is open to all institutions. CommunityDNS, currently the second largest DNS provider in the world, handling around 18 billion DNS queries per day, is anticipated to move into poll position as the world’s leading DNS resolution provider in 2010, with 37 international locations around the world. Working with organizations from around the world, CommunityDNS is a leading participant in an approved project of the European Commission Directorate General -Justice, Freedom and Security, and funded as part of the Specific Programme on Prevention, Preparedness, and Consequence Management of Terrorism and other Security Related Risks. CommunityDNS’ contributors are from the European Commission, academic institutions, and private sector organisations from around the world. In September 2009, the United Nations Department of Social and Economic Affairs entered into an Agreement with CommunityDNS to recognize its valuable contributions, fostering the forum for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue and service delivery. In October, 2009, the University of Maryland entered into an agreement with CommunityDNS as part of the Maryland International Incubator Programme. CommunityDNS, sees Maryland as the gateway to the American market and hopes its the Maryland International Incubator (MI2) membership will provide the opportunity to work (pro-bono) with the University of Maryland University to promote the university as the world’s leading academic institution in the field of global DNS resolution services and furthering CommunityDNS’ goal of becoming the world’s Centre of Excellence in this important area. UMD is currently looking for a DNS partner and CommunityDNS seeks to be that chosen partner.
US-China Training Services, Inc.
US-China Training Services (UCTS) was founded by Mr. Steven Hu in Shanghai. The business objective is to promote educational service in the areas of U.S. Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Chinese. His organization works with the Shanghai Municipal Government to assist the Small and Medium-Sized Bureau to provide services to Shanghai area businesses. He is also an active organizer of various events of the small and medium-sized companies in the Greater Shanghai region. UCTS has organized two groups of business executives to attend short training classes at the UM-China Research Park. He plans to broaden his services to high school students to participate in the Young Scholars Programs offered at University of Maryland.
Wuxi TocaTek
TocaTek, a Chinese company located in Wuxi, is funded to provide asset management as well as productivity management services. The company has a line of products, including ezCargo®, which is a cargo and fleet transaction platform integrated with GPS to provide goods owners, shipping companies, and logistics centers a real-time, high efficiency set of information services. This product allows for administrative release of available trucks, location of goods to be shipped, dispatch and monitoring of trucks, trace history of shipping routes, and the creation of statistical reports.
