Assistant Director, Mtech Venture Accelerator, Citrin Fellows Program, College Park, MD
The University of Maryland seeks a Part-Time seasoned professional to manage the Citrin Fellows Program, the University's premier program for select University of Maryland graduate students at the A. James Clark School of Engineering. The Assistant Director will directly mentor the graduate students to cultivate opportunities for new, high-growth companies with a particular focus on sustainability. The Assistant Director will actively serve as a hands-on consultant, mentor, and interim CEO/COO role for the Citrin Fellows portfolio companies to lead their business plan development, product roadmap development, feasibility studies, market and competition analysis, company formation and operations, customer development, financial modeling, talent recruitment, fundraising from equity, debt and grant sources, partnerships and business development.
The Assistant Director will be responsible for all aspects of Citrin Fellows Program management, including effectively marketing the Citrin Fellows program and building relationships with on-campus and off-campus graduate student prospects, raising awareness and stature of the Citrin Fellows Program within the local and national venture community, and growing and managing new initiatives aimed at strengthening the Citrin Fellows program and its portfolio companies (e.g., new funding programs). The Assistant Director will also be actively involved in Mtech's venture events including the University of Maryland Technology Startup Boot Camp, the University of Maryland $75k Business Plan Competition, Entrepreneur Office Hours, and Faculty Venture Fairs.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in a technical, business or related field is required. Five years' experience leading and building successful technology startup companies (preferably as founder or early stage management or as angel or venture investor); prior experience working with and mentoring technology entrepreneurs; and prior experience in business plan development, product roadmap development, feasibility studies, market and competition analysis, company formation and operations, customer development, financial modeling, talent recruitment, fundraising from equity, debt and grant sources, and partnerships and business development. Candidates must possess a significant mastery of the new venture formation and launch process, must possess outstanding communication skills, must enjoy mentoring and teaching nascent entrepreneurs, must be adept at building and managing relationships, and must possess an extensive network in the new ventures community and industry that will benefit Citrin Fellows companies. An advanced degree in a technical, business or related field is preferred and prior experience working in a university research environment and/or with university-based startups is preferred.
