As director of the Office of Business, Finance, and Facilities, Daniel Carafelli currently serves as chief business officer for the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (Mtech) at the University of Maryland’s A. James Clark School of Engineering. Dan leads the institute’s wide ranging business operations while overseeing a diverse portfolio of financial and capital assets. Mtech’s resident aviation and transportation specialist, he holds a concurrent academic appointment as a senior research fellow in the Supply Chain Management Center at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. His primary interest is the historical and continuing development of the global aviation, rail, and marine industries.
Dan holds the masters-level Certified Business Manager (CBM) professional designation from the Association of Professionals in Business Management and the Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) and Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (A.P.P.) professional designations from the Institute for Supply Management. A lifelong student of aviation and transportation history, he is also a member of the American Aviation Historical Society, National Maritime Historical Society, and National Railway Historical Society. Dan is a three-time graduate of the University of Maryland University College with a B.S. in Business and Management, a B.S. in Computer Studies (Phi Kappa Phi), and a Graduate Certificate in Financial Management.
