MIPS: Overview

Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP)

The Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) is a nationwide network of not-for-profit Centers in over 400 locations nationwide, whose sole purpose is to provide small and medium-sized manufacturers with the help they need to succeed. The Centers are linked together through the Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology. Each Center has the ability to assess where your company stands today, to provide technical and business solutions, to help you create successful partnerships, and to help you keep learning through seminars and training programs.

Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED)

The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) has the mission to stimulate private investment and create jobs, attract new businesses to the State, encourage the expansion and retention of existing companies, and provide businesses in Maryland with workforce training and financial assistance.

Supply Chain Management Center (SCMC), Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland

The Supply Chain Management Center (SCMC), established in 1998, builds on the university's half-century commitment to advancing supply chain practices and research. Working with organizations from a wide range of industries, the Supply Chain Management Center develops concepts and strategies to help organizations implement next-generation solutions for today’s collaborative supply chain environment. Drawing on the broad based expertise of the highly regarded and influential faculty throughout the Robert H. Smith School of Business, the Supply Chain Management Center combines a cross-functional approach to supply chain management with unparalleled technology resources to lead the way in defining 21st century supply chain best practices.

Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO)

The Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) has the mission to foster the development of a technology economy that will create and sustain businesses throughout all regions in the State of Maryland. TEDCO has programs to enhance the transfer of technology from universities and federal laboratories to the private sector, and to foster the growth of innovative companies, in critical or high growth sectors.

Best Manufacturing Practices Center of Excellence (BMPCOE)

The Best Manufacturing Practices Center of Excellence (BMPCOE) was formed through a partnership between the Office of Naval Research, the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Export Administration, and the University of Maryland's Engineering Research Center to work together to strengthen the U.S. industrial base. The main goal of BMP is to increase the quality, reliability, and maintainability of goods produced by American firms. The primary steps toward this goal are simple: identify best practices, document them, and then encourage industry, government, and academia to share information about them.
